HOW SHIFTING TO A ‘BILINGUAL & MULTILINGUAL APPROACH’ CAN ACCELERATE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

DID YOU KNOW THAT MOST EDUCATORS AROUND THE WORLD NEVER GET ANY TRAINING TO WORK WITH BILINGUAL & MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS (BMLS, ELL, EAL students)?

Now more than ever, principals and educators face an increasing challenge as they receive more bilingual and multlingual learners into their schools and classrooms. These learners are now the fastest-growing student group in English schools today.

Sadly, most educators have never received any training to work with these students but they must still ensure that BMLs are guaranteed access to a high-quality education. Even though BMLs have lower levels of English proficiency, school principals must still be sure that they are making good, ongoing progress. With many teachers struggling to support BMLs and not knowing exactly how to help them thrive, administrators require real, tangible solutions.

So what’s needed?

In this training, our Co-Founders and authors, Alison Schofield & Francesca McGeary, share insights you may never have heard before. They will show you how many approaches and strategies used with BMLs in schools today are actually based on wide-spread myths and how these myths can actually harm BMLs’ developing language and cultural connections. As well, they will share how some of the simplest, high-impact approaches that educators can use to accelerate student achievement are not common knowledge.

This webinar will focus on a new approach – one which employs a ‘multilingual mindset’ and ‘inclusive’ model that works to the strengths of BMLs. Also, they will share how validating a student’s home language and culture (and even bringing this into the learning) has shown to improve achievement levels in students. You will also have a chance to hear about a real, whole-school case study. Learn how one large school in Singapore was able to accelerate their learners to get outstanding achievement results by applying a multilingual mindset and inclusive approach. This webinar also includes access to valuable, additional resources.
