This 4-hour course provides educators with everything they need to know to feel confident about language development; and supporting children’s languages and cultures.

* When a nursery or childcare setting has at least 80% of their staff trained in this course, they can become recognised as a ‘BML SMART Nursery’. BML SMART Nurseries are located all around the world and provide a higher level of expertise to parents and families.

GAIN NEW TEACHING APPROACHES & STRATEGIES

As a Nursery or Early Childhood Educator, you are often the very first person that parents trust for advice when it comes to their little ones.

Since most educators do not receive any training about bilingual or multilingual learners, this certified professional development course aims to give you the best knowledge, expertise and strategies to fully support children and families.

This 4-hour course will provide you with a strong knowledge-base about infants and young children who come from bilingual or multilingual families. Multicultural children need to build a solid language foundation in all of their languages in order to thrive; and it's important that educators learn this information so that they can advise parents correctly. If parents are given incorrect information, this can lead to negative consequences like lack of connection to the home languages and culture, including their extended family. A solid language foundation is important to build early on; so that children can develop a strong vocabulary - necessary for successful academic learning.

It can often be confusing for parents to understand how to raise their child with their home languages at the same time as they are learning English (or another language). Many believe they have to stop speaking their languages in order for their child to learn English to a high level. This is simply not true! This course will help you become a 'practical expert' when it comes to understanding how to support babies, toddlers and young children's developing languages - both inside and outside of the nursery. You'll also learn many new approaches and strategies that you can start using immediately!

You will complete a total of 4 learning modules (1 hour each); and you can choose to finish them over 1 week, 2 weeks or 4 weeks. You will work at your own pace. All learning is completed on our online course platform and is pre-recorded - there are no live sessions. You can register as an individual (one person) or as a group (2 or more people within the same nursery or preschool). You can also choose the date you prefer to start on. Only those who fully complete the course activities (videos and quizzes) will receive a certificate of professional development.
