DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE 10 FACTORS THAT GREATLY IMPACT THE SUCCESS OF BILINGUAL & MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS (BMLs, MLs, ELLs)?

We call this the BML Knowledge Base and it can be transformative when understood and applied in schools. When decision makers are empowered with this information, they have the potential to significantly improve the educational experience for their BMLs. In this 15-hour Course, you will learn the foundations of the BML Knowledge Base, gaining the expertise you need to create an inclusive and enriching learning environment for your BMLs. Your Course Guide is our Co-Founder and Educational Consultant, Francesca McGeary, who has supported and advised school leaders around the world.  Francesca takes an active role with every course participant, helping them to identify what they can do to make real-impact with their BMLs.  Each participant will walk away with their own Action Plan, based on their specific school context. After completing this Course, participants can choose to continue their professional learning through our Deep Dive Challenge – where they implement their Action Plans and receive ongoing guidance.

Gain Confidence Knowing That your Decisions will Enable your BMLs to THRIVE

As a school Leader, you make decisions that affect your learners each and every day. These decisions can impact students’ achievement levels, social emotional development and engagement. Did you know that many of the decisions you make can even impact whether your bilingual and multilingual learners will maintain their home language(s) and cultural connections?

Many of the policies and practices that are used with BMLs actually go against the research and are based on myths instead of facts. As a result, BMLs are more likely to be referred to special education settings and can ‘fall through the cracks,’ without the right support.

This course is designed to familiarize you with the essential ‘BML knowledge-base’ so you understand the important research and practices that will help BMLs thrive in their English-speaking or multilingual classrooms. Wherever you are based in the world, our course takes an international perspective and provides you with relevant research and insights from around the globe.

Educators who complete this 15 hour course successfully have the option to complete an additional 15-hours of in-school professional development through our Deep Dive Challenge projects. Scroll down to our FAQ section to learn more about this as well as the Professional Development units/credits from University of the Pacific, California.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):

We would like to enroll a group of principals and leaders into the Course. How do we go about it?

You can enroll as many people as you like, however if you want to pay for them on one invoice, you will need to complete this Group Registration Form and submit it to: hello@educatorsofbmls.com at least 2 weeks in advance of your course start date.

You will also need to let us know the preferred start date for your group (Mondays only) and we will schedule your participants to receive their email invitation and join our online group only on your specified date

Your payment (or proof of payment) must be received before your group can access the Course. You can pay by bank transfer or by debit/credit card. Our invoice includes a payment link as well as our bank details.

Once you have paid, all you need to do is wait for your start date and all of the individuals you included on your registration form will be sent an email invite to join the online course group. All they need to do is click that link to create their profile, immediately accessing the Course and receiving their Welcome email.

What is a 'Deep Dive Challenge?'

Our Deep Dive Challenge is like a personal inquiry or mini action research project that participants can undertake after their core 15-hour course has been completed.

Think of our 15-hour Course like a ‘core’ course. It includes all the research and insights you need to know in order to support your BMLs effectively. The Deep Dive Challenge is like  ‘Part 2’ because you apply the core knowledge you’ve learned from it.

In the Deep Dive Challenge, you will be implementing your Action Plan and reporting your findings over a period of weeks (you plan and set your own timeline across 15 hours).

IS THIS A GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL PROJECT?

For individual participants – each person must complete their own Deep Dive Challenge. However, if participants are joining as a group of school leaders from the same school, then they can collaborate.

IS IT FOR EVERYONE?

Not everyone needs to do a Deep Dive Challenge – it is ideal for those people who are keen to apply their learning more deeply in the context of their specific school. Participants must be self-motivated. There will be ongoing feedback from our Course Guide, Francesca McGeary, who will continue to provide support, guidance and tips.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

By offering the Deep Dive Challenge as an option following our ‘core’ 15-hour course; people can take a longer break between the two, if they choose. They also have more control over what they want to learn or focus on, individually. This gives them an opportunity to focus more on the impact of specific approaches and strategies, across their school.

The Deep Dive Challenge is self-directed with feedback from your Course Guide. You will complete a ‘Learning Contract’ with 6 questions that relate to the topic, outlining what exactly you will implement. You will provide specific details related to methods, etc. You will also include your timeline for completion.

You will regularly provide an update (e.g. through detailed posts) inside our course platform. This is how you will represent and reflect on your learning.

Once you have completed your Challenge, you will write a detailed final summary to share your findings and what you’ve learned. You will receive your certificate for 15 additional hours of professional development after you’ve completed your project successfully.

With 30-hours of professional development completed, you are eligible to apply for up to 2 units/credits of equivalent, graduate-level coursework from University of the Pacific (California) through our partners, Courses4Teachers.  Additional fees apply. Please email us for more information at: hello@educatorsofbmls.com
